Resources[edit]

Gems[edit]

Spending Gems Wisely[edit]

New Trainers can benefit by prioritizing initial Gem spending on the first three items in this list (the fourth is optional):

  • Leveling up the Ancient Portal: with more energy units you can hire a Dragon from one of your friends on the battle maps and you can participate in more battles.
  • Leveling up the Hatchery: you can hatch more eggs at the same time.
  • Purchasing the VIP Status: battle rewards on the Campaign Map get increased by 50% (and on higher levels, that is a significant and important amount of Gold and Food).
  • Buying a Boss Habitat and a Boss Dragon (if highly desired): they can not be bred, only bought with Gems, and each boss will increase your Gold income by 10 percent.

Obtaining More Gems[edit]

For tips on obtaining more Gems, see earning gems.

Relics[edit]

There are certain times where Trainers may find certain Relic use to be more strategic. Some Relics can also be strategically stacked or layered (sometimes in combination with Chronos) to provide additional benefit. The following are strategic Relic uses as suggested by the DML community in the Gameloft Forums:

  • Double-Egg Relic - Useful in combination with the Extra-Den Relic for double the benefit. Often used during Chain Breeding Events where the time window for breeding Dragons is the shortest, to help provide better odds of obtaining desired Dragons. Many Trainers pay special attention to not use the Double-Egg Relic before bed time, so hours of use aren't lost, rather it is better used during a period where more breeds can be completed. Using Chronos When both the Extra-Den Relic and Double-Egg Relic are activated also double's Chronos' effectiveness. Some Trainers also use this Relic during or Dragon of the Week breeding.
  • Extra Den Relic - Useful in combination with the Double-Egg Relic (and sometimes Chronos) to get twice the benefit of each. Also sometimes used during Castle Events on days with large collection pools only, and when there are concurrent Events where a Dragon is needed from both and breeding time windows are short, such as Chain Breeding Events and Dragon of the Week.
  • Relic of Breeding - Useful during Chain Breeding Events where breeding time windows are short, often combined with Double-egg and Hatching Relics, and Chronos to help provide advantages in these types of Events. Also used for missed or difficult to obtain Dragon of the Week Dragons, or to "catch up" on 6-hour special Event cycle currency in Castle Events a collecting cycle can be done with a few minutes left to next cycle, before bed or on waking, just prior to the next cycle starts (only works in some time zones). Not recommended for use with Dragon of the Month where persistent daily breeding and patience usually provides the desired Dragon without wasting a Relic.
  • Relic of Hatching - Useful in combination for short time window events such as Chain Breeding Events where breeding outcomes may essentially "pile up" and clog a person's Hatchery due to other relic.
  • Relic of Farming - Useful when there are Feeding Events offering Tickets for Divine/Ancient events and Food supplies are low. Also used for unexpected Clan quests for food or for a strategic advantage in Sugar Rush Clan events.
  • Relic of Exploration - Useful for strategic advantage in Sugar Rush Clan events for completing Ruins tasks in tight time frames.

Battle[edit]

Dragon Team[edit]

In early gameplay, players should consider:

  • Not investing much food and other resources in low-rarity, 1- or 2-Element Dragons because in later gameplay Trainers will find value in switching these Dragons out for 3-element Dragons with more Elements or better Skills.
  • That fostering or switching to a certain kind of team configuration in later gameplay can also help Trainers be more successful in various aspects of gameplay as well as in Events.
  • That spending more resources on 3-element Dragons instead of 1- or 2-Element dragons requires less resources overall because less Dragons are required to cover the Element spread for items such as Event element-restriction and Temple upgrades. Note: in the earliest parts of gameplay this strategy is not practical, it is only a bit later in gameplay that a shift to this strategy becomes more practical.

Buildings[edit]

Habitats[edit]

***Information contained herein may be incorrect or incomplete and is subject to change.***

Maximizing Gold Held[edit]

Placing a Dragon in its highest earning Element Habitat can help to maximize gold production per hour and minimize the number of low-earning Habitats that a Trainer has, allowing the Trainer to earn (and hold) more Gold per hour. An example would be if a Dragon has FireEarthWind Elements, the earth Earth Element earns the most Gold per hour, so the Dragon is placed in an Earth Habitat.

The order of the Elements in general from low to high appears on the right, starting from left to right (Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Plant, Metal, Energy, Void, Light, Shadow). The lowest holding habitats generally match up with the lowest earning Element and the use of those Habitats should be minimized whenever possible in favor of higher earning Habitats.

This may require a lot of initial rearranging, but if Trainers get in the habit of always placing new dragons in their highest earning Element Habitat, then Gold production and holding can be always maximized. The noteworthy exceptions to this are Legendary, Divine, and Ancient Habitats whose holding capacity is far less than their earning capacity. It is for this reason that many Trainers avoid excess Legendary or other Habitats, using them only when necessary, and also avoid their use for Dragons of higher Elements (at least those of Metal, Energy, Void, Light, or Shadow whose respective Habitats hold more than Legendary habitats) and which do not need to be housed in low-holding Habitats.
See Habitats: Gold Capacity Comparison for more information

Strategic Upgrading[edit]

As Trainers rise in player level and obtain more Dragons, it may become necessary to upgrade Habitats with Enchantment Materials due to lack of space. Enchantment Materials are precious, and it makes good sense to upgrade lowest holding Habitats (Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Plant etc.) first since the cost for upgrading these habitats is less, though this will depend on an individual Trainer’s inventory and Trainers should first be sure they are maximizing Gold held (in Habitats) to ensure extra or unnecessary Habitats are not upgraded.

Enchantment League[edit]

Winning more Battles[edit]

League Button.png

It isn't possible for a Trainer to win every Enchantment battle in the Enchantment League. Battles won reward much needed Enchantment Materials used to Enchant Dragons to increase strength and are also required to upgrade some Habitats past level 6 to provide Trainers with added space to house Dragons.

Winning all battles is not the best goal in the Enchantment League, the primary goal is to earn the most Enchantment Materials possible daily. This requires using all of a Trainer's Enchantment Keys each time the Enchantment League is played. Losing a battle does not use Keys or turns, only winning does, so losses do not matter.

  • Some Trainers intentionally lose battles with weaker, lower-level Enchanted Dragons to avoid spending Gold on refreshes to return to easier battles won (a lower Golden Trophy Icon.png trophies count brings weaker opponents.
  • Continuing with battle (win or loss, in the highest league for the best rewards possible) allows Trainer's to using up all Keys Key.png to gain more Enchantment Materials per round than players who do not. Thus, losing Enchantment League battles can be a tool to bring a Trainer back down to the lower end of the same league for easier opponents but the same quality materials.

Bottomless Dungeon[edit]

Getting the Weekly Dragon[edit]

For Trainers that wish to obtain the Bottomless Dungeon Guaranteed Dragon each week, it may be important to:

  • Begin playing the Bottomless Dungeon as soon after the weekly refresh as possible.
  • Do battles in the dungeon every 6 hours after ‘’initial’’ battles (which run on a shorter timer).
  • Recognize that Dragon defeats are only advantageous when a task that rewards stepping stones calls for it (otherwise it can sometimes be more advantageous to avoid defeating dragons to get additional hits in and/or complete additional tasks).
  • Recognize that two tasks can sometimes be completed at once and careful planning of which task to complete and when can help you to earn more stepping stones per round.
  • Have a certain kind of team configuration in later gameplay can help in the Dungeon.
  • That weekly Opponent Pools can require you to adjust your strategy.
  • If obtaining the weekly Dragon is the goal, then almost always selecting Stepping Stones as the reward will get you farther, faster and allow you to open more chests and open the final chest more times.
  • If the goal is to earn more Dungeon Tokens, you have to adapt your selection accordingly and expect you may not get as far.

Quick Breeds - Breed Dragons Quest[edit]

The Breed Dragons quest in the Clan Quests list can be completed faster than usual using one of the following quick-breed combinations for the required Element:

Temples[edit]

In early gameplay especially Trainers should keep in mind that Dragon Leveling is limited until they have upgraded their Temples, doing so requires 5 Dragons with each element to be leveled appropriately until all Temples are fully upgraded. This is another instance where resources can be maximized by leveling 3-element Dragons to cover the element spread more efficient with less Dragons.

Events[edit]

Dragon of the Week[edit]

Players determined to increase their odds of obtaining Dragon of the Week (DOTW) may do one or a combination of the following to help swing the odds in their favor:

  • Breed all of the Normally-Breedable Dragons frequently used in breeding DOTW to ensure pre-requisite Dragons are not missing from their collections.
  • Set reminders of when a breed ends in order to re-breed more often and therefore maximize the number of breeds possible during a week.
  • If feasible (optional, advanced/premium) purchase the second Extra Den and in advance of the DOTW, either:
    • Breed an extra set of the known parents prior to the event in order to do two breeding combinations concurrently and increase odds of success.
      OR
    • Keep a duplicate set of Dragons in the Vault for commonly used DOTW combinations (though many players with large Dragon collections do not have the extra space for this option). Often this includes the 5 Rare Dragons in the Unlikely Attractions codex collection, any Uncommon Dragons, and occasionally common Epics like Orange Dragon. Dragons with Shadow or Light elements are not currently used for DOTW breeding combinations.

Major Events[edit]

Boss Challenges[edit]

Note that some Elements are restricted less and for that reason may be helpful to have on your battle team (Divine, Ancient, Legendary).

Solo Events[edit]

  • A fast-breed for Breed an Uncommon Dragon and Breed a Hybrid Dragon tasks can be performed using unenchanted Fire Dragon Fire Dragon Icon.png + Wind Dragon Wind Dragon Icon.png to obtain a Bee Dragon Bee Dragon Icon.png (Uncommon) or a Smoke Dragon Smoke Dragon Icon.png (Common).
    • If both Dragons are enchanted, the Leopard Dragon Leopard Dragon Icon.png is a possible unintended outcome, so Trainers should ensure at least one Dragon in the combination is not Enchanted. In the case that both are Enchanted, the Fire Dragon Fire Dragon Icon.png should be bred with either the Seed Dragon Seed Dragon Icon.png or Leaf Dragon Leaf Dragon Icon.png instead.

Dragonmaster Pass Events[edit]

A good Breeding/Hatching combination for getting Season Points is Fire Dragon Fire Dragon Icon.png + Dust Dragon Dust Dragon Icon.png, as they have Rare Tribal Dragon Icon.png and Epic Elephant Dragon Icon.pngHarpy Dragon Icon.png offsprings with short breeding times. The possibly resulting Runestone Dragon Runestone Dragon Icon.png and Mystic Dragon Mystic Dragon Icon.png are obtainable only once.

Castle Events[edit]

Castle Event.png

To fully complete a Castle event, it may be necessary to:

  • Log in every 6 hours to collect event currency and avoid missed cycles. Missed collection cycles may result in the inability for a Trainer to finish the event.
  • Collect ALL Castle Event Currency possible in a given cycle by:
    • Frequent check-in.
    • Having enough Habitats for Gold collection.
    • Having a fully-upgraded Ancient Portal.
    • Having enough Ancient Portal refills (for additional battles) which are gained via gifts from the Friend System, and using them as required to complete extra battles required to obtain Castle Event Currency.
    • Using Arena battles to aid in completion of battle tasks per cycle.
    • Using Side Quest battles to aid in completion of battle tasks per cycle.
    • Using optimal breeding combinations (each event page has a table for Castle Event Currency per breeding combination), and Trainers may feel that having the Extra Den is necessary if they are unable to find Castle keys early enough in each level of the event.
    • Purchase the (optional) extra Currency Generator usually offered in the Main Shop for Trainers that intend to miss event cycles.
  • Do NOT clear one level at a time. Higher levels award higher currency, which means the wisest course is to find the key in each level as fast as possible and moving on to subsequent levels as fast as possible, to obtain more currency per cycle. Once a Trainer is collecting the highest amount of currency per cycle and finished the Castle, it is advisable to then go back to collect any remaining uncollected Dragon Pieces (for Card Segment Dragons) now that valuable currency per cycle are not being lost. Clearing one level at a time will result in significant loss of currency every additional cycle spent on lower levels.
  • Use perfect hits to enable the use of Dragon Fury on tougher Castle battles and/or use Dragon Fury Essence in battles where a Trainer does not expect to win without additional means.
Element Restrictions[edit]
  • Consider having an evenly-leveled and evenly-enchanted team of three-Element Dragons with the intention of covering most of the basic Elements (Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Metal, Energy, Void, Shadow, Light, Shadow, and if/when possible Divine and Ancient) at least 1-2 times. Also consider having a good balance of Sigils on your team.
    • Opponent levels are based on an averaging of a Trainer's highest level Dragons (based on all of their attributes included additions like Sigils, Skills, Enchantment Stars, etc.). Having an even team may provide a better fighting balance for players as well as easier battles in Castle Events, Relay Events, on the Campaign Map, and in the Bottomless Dungeon.
    • Having a balanced team can also prevent the need to spend Event currency to bypass Element-restricted battles in Castle Events.

Divine & Ancient Events[edit]

The same principles that apply to Castle Event Tips to Divine an Ancient events.

  • Log in every 6 hours to collect event currency and avoid missed cycles. Missed collection cycles may result in the inability for a Trainer to collect more Dragons.
  • Collect ALL event currency possible.
  • Play all events that may award Tickets throughout the duration of an event (there are many, including Boss Challenges, Food and Gold Events, Solo Events, the Bottomless Dungeon (when awarding tickets some weeks during events).
  • The shortest guaranteed dragon combinations for the 200x event currency breeding task are (1) Plant Dragon Plant Dragon Icon.png + Earth Dragon Earth Dragon Icon.png (yields Tree Dragon Tree Dragon Icon.png) or (2) Fire Dragon Fire Dragon Icon.png + Metal Dragon Metal Dragon Icon.png (yields War Dragon War Dragon Icon.png). Both breeding combinations have only one breeding outcome (Tree Dragon and War Dragon respectively). Both breeding combinations take the same amount of time: 6 Hours for non-VIP breeding and 4 Hours & 48 Minutes for VIP breeding.
Dragon Dice Bingo Cards[edit]

There are a variety of strategies a Trainer can use with regards to Dragon Dice Bingo Cards.

  • If Trainers wishes to obtain all possible rewards from Bingo Cards, they can use re-rolls to intentionally land on the checkpoints and un-obtained Bingo Card tiles. Trainers can also leave the Bingo Card screen open while advancing on the game board to aid in decision making about chosen tiles and die rolls to maximize bingo tiles obtained. Proceeding on the game board without watching the Bingo Card can result in lost opportunities to clear Bingo Card squares and gain subsequent prizes.
  • Other Trainers intentionally choose to skip Bingo Cards when the prizes offered that day are undesirable, and this allows them to save event currency for Bingo Blackouts on the days where prizes are highly desired.
  • Many Trainers use a method whereby they only advance enough moves on the board each day to clear the Bingo Card (with the exception of when there is a cycle bonus for advancing a certain number of tiles, or landing on certain tiles), then they save the rest of their event currency for the next day's Bingo Card. By doing this or purchasing an initial stash of extra event currency, Trainers can stay ahead of the Bingo Card and complete them every day of the event (if desired), sometimes resulting in more prizes obtained.

Holiday Events[edit]

Hidden Easter Badge[edit]
Rabbit Chaser Badge.png

A hidden Easter badge can be found in some Easter Events. The badge can be obtained by finding and tapping each of the rabbits included in each level. When a rabbit has been correctly found and tapped, it will follow the Trainer's Dragon around the map. If it does not, the rabbit may need to be tapped more than once/twice. Generally there is one rabbit to be collected per number of the level (one rabbit in level 1, two rabbits in level 2, etc.). The location of each rabbit is generally included in the Event's page indicated by arrows.

Hidden Halloween Badge[edit]

A hidden Halloween badge can be found in some Halloween events. The badge can be obtained by finding and tapping each of the ghosts included in each level. When a ghost has been correctly found and tapped, it will follow the Trainer's Dragon around the map. If it does not, the ghost may need to be tapped more than once/twice. Generally there is one ghost to be collected per Number of the level (1 ghost in level 1, 2 ghosts in level 2, etc.). The location of each ghost is generally included in the Event's page indicated by arrows.
