Relay Events are limited-time competitions in which each Trainer participates individually. These events follow a single path made from a series of tiles, each containing a different, restrictive battle. Battle restrictions may be for the type of Elements allowed to be used, or a specific Dragon. The former are known as Boss Challenge events, while the latter are known as Hero's Challenge events. Upon winning a battle, a set period of time is required to pass before the next challenge may be attempted. Any waiting period can be skipped using Gems.

Hero's Challenge

Battles in a Hero's Challenge are linear and end when the last battle is won. There are a total of 26 battles with Food, Gold, or Gems among the rewards earned for each battle won. A Dragon is given as a reward for defeating the last battle. A Hero's Challenge can only be accessed and attempted with one specific Dragon, determined before the challenge starts.

The levels of the opposing Dragons are based on Player Level at the moment the event started. There are four level brackets: the first for levels 7 to 20, the second for levels 21 to 40, the third for levels 41 to 70, and the fourth for Level 71 and higher.

Boss Challenges

Boss Challenges are based on regenerating laps, with each lap consisting of 11 regular and 4 main battles.

During a Boss Challenge, Trainers earn main rewards by defeating Boss-like Dragons and smaller rewards by defeating regular Dragons. The main rewards can be in the same amount for all Boss-like Dragons, or they can increase with each Dragon defeated. The amounts given for defeating regular Dragons are based on the Level Modifier. When there is no Divine Thematic or Ancient Thematic occurring, Gems are awarded for defeating Boss-like Dragons. (1 Gem is given for defeating the first Boss of a round, 2 Gems for the second one, 3 Gems for the third one, and 4 Gems for the fourth one.) When a Divine/Ancient Thematic is transpiring, usually 1 Divine/Ancient Ticket is given for any defeated Boss-like Dragon instead of the Gem(s), regardless of the battle or lap.

When a lap is cleared, a reward is given and the map resets with a new set of battles. Once the fourth lap is completed, the Trainer is rewarded with a Dragon. Any subsequent lap after the fourth one offers a repeatable reward consisting of Dragon Piece Tickets, Divine Tickets or Ancient Tickets. Boss Challenge laps are typically unlimited with infinite rounds.

The in-game description states only the Divine element as the always allowed one, while it actually is “Divine *and above*”. So Divine, Ancient, Primal and Tyrant elements are allowed in each of the battles.

The Elements that can be brought to Boss Battles are increasingly restricted, starting with all Elements allowed in the battles leading up to the first Boss-like Dragon. One random Element is removed each time a Boss-like Dragon is defeated, making the restrictions more severe after each Dragon. A maximum of 9 get restricted, leaving the highest 4 Elements as the only exclusions from limitation, being allowed in all battles. The hardest battles allow only 6 Elements: the aforementioned and two other random Elements that change each time a Boss Battle is won. The Elemental restrictions can be refreshed   Refresh Icon.png Refresh  , but there is a waiting period before the next fight can start, and it will only last until the next Boss is defeated. Every battle requires a cooldown period to pass before the next battle can be joined.

Team Planner The DML Planner Team Planner provides a way to plan a Dragon Battle team that covers all or most Elements at least once. Doing this can provide a well-rounded battle team for the Dungeon, and may help reduce the difficulty encountered in Events that restrict Dragons used in battle by Element, such as in Castle Events, and Boss Challenge Events.

The enemy Dragons are entirely random and not all Trainers face the same Dragons. In most cases, the main opponents are the only similar Dragons encountered by all Trainers. The levels of all opposing Dragons are in direct relation to the levels of the Trainer's own Dragons at the moment a Boss Challenge starts.
