On Dragon Mania Legends Wiki (DML Wiki), vandalism and disruptive edits are considered to be repeatedly editing the wiki in a disruptive or intentionally malicious manner.

Vandalism

Vandalism includes any addition, page creation, removal, or modification that is intentionally incorrect, false, nonsensical, irrelevant, humorous, a hoax, offensive, or libelous or degrading in any way. The repeated addition, removal, or changing of such content without regard to wiki policies, including neutral point of view, and verifiability are considered a deliberate attempt to damage the Dragon Mania Legends Wiki. Use of multiple accounts to do such behavior may also constitute vandalism.

Vandalism on this wiki is prohibited. While our editors and staff are encouraged to educate and warn vandals, warnings are not a prerequisite for vandal blocking. The Code of Conduct and Manual of Style are prominently provided links and users are expected to educate themselves before editing.

Good faith efforts to add to or improve the wiki are not considered vandalism. Staff member consideration and discussion may be required to differentiate between beneficial edits, detrimental but well-intentioned edits, and edits considered to be vandalism. If an edit was clearly intended to improve this wiki, these edits are not considered vandalism.

Intentional vandalism may include (but is not limited to):

  • Repeatedly inserting incorrect information, or changing correct information to be incorrect.
  • Unexpected changes in formatting.
  • Malicious or repeated account creation.
  • Creating inappropriate or irritating account names.
  • Illegitimate page blanking.
  • Repeatedly uploading copyrighted, inappropriate, or unusable materials.
  • Repeatedly inserting, or changing to, inappropriate formatting.
  • Making use of hidden or embedded text that doesn't have a valid wiki purpose.
  • Posting hoax or falsified information, or illegitimate page creation.
  • Linking to or advertising non-necessary sites or resources (link vandalism).
  • Renaming, redirecting, or moving pages to invalid names, or for invalid reasons (move, rename or redirect vandalism).

Disruptive Edits

Disruptive edits are a pattern of editing the wiki that disrupts overall progress toward improving articles or expanding and maintaining the encyclopedic game information. A disruptive editing pattern may extend over a period of time on various articles, and may impede the efforts of other edits or staff. Disruptive editing may not always be vandalism, which is considered always disruptive. Editors can be disruptive accidentally if they don't know or understand how to edit correctly, or if they do not possess the competence or social skills necessary to work collaboratively. Disruptive editing that occurs in good faith still does not change the fact that such editing is harmful to this wiki.

A disruptive editor may exhibit the following tendencies:

  • Unwilling or unable to satisfy wiki verified content requirements.
  • Editing or creating articles in ways that deliberately seek to oppose staff or circumvent rules or conventions.
  • Repeatedly opposing (via changing, or removing) content or verified information contributed by other editors, or particular editors.
  • Failing to engage in building consensus:
    • Repeatedly ignores or disregards other editors' requests or questions for explanations regarding edits or objections to them (without sound logic in the case of Staff).
    • Repeatedly ignores or disregards other editors' explanations regarding edits (without sound logic in the case of Staff).
    • Rejects or ignores logical input, or resists discussion or moderation, continuing to edit in pursuit of a certain point despite an opposing consensus from impartial editors (or particularly Staff charged with wiki quality oversight and maintenance).
  • Campaigns to drive away other valid, contentious, productive, or well-meaning editors that don't engage in disruptive or vandalism-related edits.
  • Creates a large amount of non-productive work for other editors or staff.

Addressing and Preventing Vandalism

Wiki staff and editors alike are welcome (and encouraged) to revert or correct obvious acts of vandalism. The following also may aid in monitoring for vandalism:

  • Recent Changes can be monitored for possible vandalism.
  • Any page can be Watched (registered users), by visiting the page and clicking Actions > Watch.
  • Protecting articles so only established users, or in some cases, only administrators can edit them.
  • Reviewing contributions link of Recently Active Users.

Moderators and above:

  • Posting the {{welcome}} template with such guidance on a user's talk/discussion page to make them aware of the Code of Conduct and related rules.
  • Posting a neutrally worded warning on a user's page if such behavior continues.
  • Blocking users (typically for 1 week for the first, or minor to moderate infractions) that commits acts of vandalism.

Staff Moderators and above:

  • Blocking users (indefinitely) that: commit repeated acts of vandalism, commits major infractions such as (but not limited to) very inappropriate content (text, images, information, or links), engaging in obvious harassment, attacks, profanity, edit warring, spambots, obviously underage users, or posting unreleased game information etc.

Administrators and above:

  • Protecting repeatedly vandalized articles so only autoconfirmed users or Administrators (and above) can edit them. Though ideally most pages should not need protection, or need it short-term only.
