The Dragon League is a battling competition hosted in the Arena that takes place between Dragons. It is unlocked when a Trainer reaches Level 11, and it can be accessed through the button on the bottom left-hand side of the screen or by pressing the very same button after selecting the Arena. The Trainer selects up to three Dragons to fight against another Trainer's Dragons in an attempt to gain points. When in battle, the attacking Trainer is facing the actual Dragons of real Trainers, but these Dragons are operated by the program rather than the actual Trainer competing against the attacking Trainer in real-time. In other words, the defending Trainer's actions are taken by the game itself while using their Dragons. Trainers are awarded accumulative points after each battle for the battle performance, and, when applicable, rewards for reaching certain levels of win streaks. At the end of the competition, Trainers receive league rewards based on their current league, Trainer Level (modifiers), and the number of points they have accumulated compared to other Trainers.
Each battle in the Dragon League costs one unit of Arena Energy for a normal attack or two for a Focus Attack (increases the damage inflicted by allied Dragons by 50%). The energy will automatically regenerate at one every 40 minutes until a Trainer's maximum limit is reached. The energy can also be immediately replenished with Arena Gems held in the inventory or by paying 3 Gems per energy (must purchase all energy required to meet the maximum limit through either method). VIP Trainers have a limit of eight units of energy and non-VIP Trainers have a limit of four units of energy. There is currently no way to increase the maximum number of energy to more than six. The list of available opponents can be refreshed for free once every 3 hours or, if desired, at any time using 5 Gems per refresh.

After opening the Dragon League screen, the Trainer can see their current league, the time left for the current instance of the Dragon League, the leaderboard as well as their position on it, their current score, their current win streak, the current prizes offered for the league, the milestone rewards, the average level of the Dragons in the current league, and a few more options. If there is no new prize to be earned, a window notifying the Trainer will be displayed. From here on, the Trainer can press: the button to see the current rankings, the i button (under win streak) to see the rewards that can be earned from win streaks, the + button to refill their Arena Energy, the emblem of the League to show the promotion rewards for each league, the i button (on the card pack) to see the current Dragon(s) for which Dragon Pieces can be earned, or the Find
Opponents Find Opponents button to proceed to the battle selection screen.
Points[edit source | edit]
Points are earned for each match completed, win or lose. If a Trainer loses the battle, they will only receive 5 points in total. If a Trainer wins a match, they will receive a base of 10 points plus any bonus point earned from the battle.
Additional Points[edit source | edit]
Bonus points are added based upon the difficulty of the battle, the level of the opposing Dragons and the Trainer's winning streak. 10 points are given for winning a match.
Difficulty – Trainers are presented with three opponents; the battle difficulty will be displayed upon the challenge snapshot of each opponent, along with the Dragons they will bring to the battle. The difficulty on an opponent is given in relation to all the Dragons in the Trainer's roster in relation to the opponent's own Dragons, and is not based on the Dragon team chosen for the battle. There are three possible levels of difficulty:
Opposing Dragon Level – 1 bonus point is given for each level of the opposing Trainer's Dragons.
Win Streak – Bonus points are given for defeating multiple opponents in a row within a given time frame. The bonus points increase with the win streak and are added to the Trainer's score.

Leagues[edit source | edit]
The Dragon League is tiered into six different leagues, with each league, except the Elite League, having three divisions. Competing in the Dragon League is similar to competitions in events as there are two iterations per week, one between Monday 07:00 UTC and Thursday 17:00 UTC, and the other between Thursday 17:00 UTC and Monday 07:00 UTC. Each iteration divides Trainers into groups of 500 and lasts 3 days and 12 hours. Once a competition has finished, Trainers are rewarded based on their points compared to other Trainers.
Trainers are promoted to higher leagues based on their position at the end of a Dragon League iteration and if they have participated in at least one fight. Trainers must finish in the Top 200 throughout the Bronze League and up to the Silver League, then in the Top 150 throughout the Silver League and up to the Gold League, then the Top 100 throughout the Gold League, the Diamond League, and the Dragonscale League.
Upon reaching Bronze League 2, Trainers who have fought at least one match and find themselves in the bottom rankings, opposite to the top needed for a promotion, are demoted to the league before their current one. Once the top prize for a league is obtained, Trainers who are demoted and then promoted back will not receive the same prize again, the only rewards given being those from the leaderboard, win streak and milestone rewards.
In addition to the above requirements, promotion to the Elite League can only occur for Trainers who finish in the Top 75 of Dragonscale League 1 and own at least 3 Level 80 Dragons. Trainers who finish in the Top 75 of the league, but fail to meet the requirement on Dragons will not be promoted. Once a Trainer is promoted to the Elite League, they can no longer be demoted to lower leagues. Even after promotions to the Elite League occurs, only Level 80 or higher Dragons are allowed to participate in battles.
Milestone Rewards[edit source | edit]
The milestone rewards are given to each Trainer that manages to accumulate a certain number of points within an iteration of the league. The rewards are given only once per iteration, and they reset with each iteration. The rewards are different for each league, but the same for all divisions of the same league. The first milestone reward for the Elite League, the limited Breeding Token, cycles between whichever is the current top Dragon in Dragonscale League 1. The token is available for 3 days and 12 hours starting from its activation.
The amount of Gold and Food rewarded are based on the Trainer's level. The values below pertain to Modifier 1. See Level Modifier for more information.
Card Pack Contents[edit source | edit]
The card pack offers only one card in all leagues and division. The Dragons for which matching Dragon Pieces are given and the amount of said Dragon Pieces varies from league to league. Each Dragon and its corresponding number of pieces have a fixed chance of being obtained.

Promotion Rewards[edit source | edit]
The Dragon League is broken up into multiple leagues and divisions. Placing in the Top 200 of a division promotes the Trainer to the next division, awarding them with a Dragon or decoration. Each reward may only be received once. The Elite League is the only league without divisions.

Dragonscale League 1[edit source | edit]
Upon being promoted to Dragonscale League 1 (the last division of the Dragonscale League) the top reward is changed to a limited Arena-Prize Dragon. Starting from 18 February 2016, the limited Dragon changes every 28 or 31 days on the corresponding Monday or Thursday and cycles between the Warlord Dragon, Mech Dragon, Tsunami Dragon and Red Feather Dragon.

Elite League[edit source | edit]
Upon being promoted to Elite League 1 the top reward is changed to a different limited Arena-Prize Dragon. Starting from 3 September 2018, the limited Dragon changes every 28 or 31 days on the corresponding Monday or Thursday (synched with DS 1) and cycles between the Herald Dragon, Merchant Dragon, Amazon Dragon, and Red Rib Dragon.
The Warlord Dragon, Mech Dragon, Red Feather Dragon, and Tsunami Dragon can be obtained through Breeding Tokens in this league (1st Milestone).

Win Streak[edit source | edit]
Each time a match is won, a win-streak is started or continued. If a match is won in the next 21 minutes, the streak will continue. Every three consecutive victories, up to the 20th, in addition to the bonus to the battle score from the next victories, a reward is earned, which depends on the Trainer's level. The Arena Expert Badge is given for achieving a win-streak of 20 for the very first time. There are 6 different reward brackets, namely levels 10-15, levels 16-21, levels 22-27, levels 28-33, levels 34-39, and levels over 40.

These are promotions that occasionally occur during a widely held holiday. During these festivals, Trainers are provided with unique leaderboards and prizes.

On the 13th, 14th, and 15th of March 2015, the Dragon League had a daily run of 12 hours in which a different prize was awarded each day to those who placed in the top five spots. On the first day, the prize was the Agent Dragon. On the second day, the prize was the Lynx Dragon. On the last day, the prize was the Hammerhead Dragon.

- Starting with the introduction of the very first Faction Event in the game (Light and Shadow Games), where two sides compete against each other, Dragon League battles are sometimes the goal for these types of events.
- A type of Clan Event called Settle the Score ran once every 3 weeks, from Monday to Friday, before it was discontinued. It was available only to Clan members and its goal was for these members to collectively gather as many points as possible during the event, which counted toward their Clan score, but also to their individual score. That event has since been replaced by individual Clan Quests which, during The Great Dragon Race and the Clan Siege, offer items needed to participate in those events.
